This was a page on the site until the facelift deleted it. It is now resurrected and updated as a blogpost!
Here are some of the MFL websites I have read and learnt a lot from over the past few years. They are in no particular order. Some do not post as regularly anymore but what is remains there is more than worth a read.
Further down there are a number of websites pertaining to general pedagogy that again have influenced my teacher over the past 15 years.
If I have forgotten you, please feel free to get in touch.
The nice man who teaches languages – Vincent Everett’s blog centres around classroom practice, developing the repertoire of a student along with other posts about the new new GCSE and AI. You can also watch his CPD videos here
French Teacher – Steve Smith writes extensively about languages teaching, pedagogy. He has published books and also has a Youtube channel with some excellent CPD videos. I have learnt huge amounts from his writings over the years and highly recommend his works.
MFL Craft – Esmerelda Salgado’s site is full of ideas and she writes particularly powerfully about supporting Year 11s taking their GCSEs. She also offers resources covering a variety of topics, year groups that are well worth a look.
Bethlingual – Beth Muten’s blog and Facebook/Instagram posts are well worth a read with lots of ideas especially in the realm of phonics.
The Language Gym – Gianfranco Conti has a unique ability to take research and make it applicable to classroom practice. I have learnt a lot from Gianfranco in the time he has been posting. For more of his work you should also check out the Global Innovative Language Teachers Facebook group.
Informed Language Teacher – Steve Smith’s site for language teachers who want to go deeper into research.
Frau Bastow Blog – Another website with a veritable wealth of information that is categorised neatly in a way that everything is easy to find with a few clicks. Her “first lesson of the new year” posts are well worth a read but if we’re honest, so is everything else.
Mr Vinales MFL – Dylan hails from the same establishment as Gianfranco Conti. His blog contains a mixture of how EPI (extensive processing instruction) is used, updates to the sentence builder books and has a great post on enjoyable listening lessons.
Target Language Classroom – It looks like this site stopped in 2024 but lots of ideas.
MFL Classroom Magic – Last posted in early 2025 but again lots of good ideas.
Morgan MFL – stopped in 2021 but lots of good ideas.
The Ideal Teacher – So much on here. While the author primarily offers tutoring, there is a section titled languages blog with a treasure trove of ideas, youtube videos and resources.
Not an MFL Blogs but…
Ben Newmark Blog – Ben is not an MFL teacher but his writing about teaching makes so much sense that I’m including it here.
Classteaching – Learnt a lot from this one over the past few years.
Teacherhead – Also learnt a lot from this one. The pedagogy postcard series was massively helpful for me in my early days.
A Chemical Orthodoxy – learnt a lot from Adam Boxer’s blog. Even though Adam is a science teacher, he writes a lot about pedagogy, behaviour and trends he sees in teaching. He also posts here.
